Have you ever wondered where chocolate originated?  In this one-time class, we will learn about this mouth-watering substance. We will be learning about the man behind the chocolate: Milton Hershey.  We will take a look at Milton Hershey’s journey to success. As a class, we will learn about what makes a good leader and how Milton Hershey led others successfully.  Together we will also explore Hershey, PA, and learn about its history. Students will be able to identify where Hershey, PA is located along with identifying where cacao beans are harvested.  Students will also learn the process of the cacao bean and how it becomes milk chocolate. This lesson will include grammar, math, geography, history, and science to maximize the educational experience while learning about chocolate.  Students will be given a visual slide presentation to follow during the lesson as we discuss the various objectives.  Students will be engaged and have fun as they learn many different things about chocolate.  I will monitor comprehension by asking questions throughout the lesson and a review game at the end of the course. I look forward to seeing your child in the classroom as we learn about all things chocolate.

Learning Goals

The student will learn about the life of Milton Hershey and the legacy he left behind.

The student will use adjectives to describe chocolate and Milton Hershey.

The student will identify where Hershey, PA, is on a map and explore the town.

The student will identify the country where Caco beans are harvested and learn how chocolate gets to them. 

The student will explore Hershey, PA, and learn about its history.

Hello parents and guardians, my name is Gayla Tidwell.  Welcome to my classroom.  I look forward to meeting your child soon. In my classroom, your child will explore various topics and have a lot of fun. Each class will include grammar, math, geography, history, and science to maximize the educational experience for your child. I enjoy planning lessons that incorporate different subject areas.  I believe this allows each course to be full of variety and knowledge about the subject matter. I bring a lot of energy to my classroom, which results in exciting and engaging lessons.  I also strive to build a strong rapport with my students ensuring they are comfortable and eager to participate.  I am confident your child will have an enjoyable learning experience in my classroom. 

I have 18 years of teaching experience. Over those 18 years, I have taught 4th and 5th-grade language arts, preschool, and ESL (English as a Second Language) online.  I have also homeschooled my four children for the past four years. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education P-4, an additional license 4-8 in English, and a Master’s degree in Teacher Leadership. 

I am married and have four children. I enjoy creating things, swimming, traveling, and spending time with my family. Teaching is one of my favorite things to do.  I always enjoy creating lessons that are fun and engaging. I look forward to teaching your child in my classroom soon.
