In this class, we will discuss common disease processes at a developmentally appropriate level. Students need to have a basic knowledge of the human body prior to taking this class. I suggest that students have taken my 8 week human body class before taking this class. This course is perfect for students interested in the medical field. Students will have a basic understanding of how diseases affect the human body including symptoms and common treatment.
I am a Certified Child Life Specialist and have experience working in the hospital setting with children. As part of my Bachelor's degree program I took Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology as well as the Study of Disease Processes. Part of the role of a child life specialist is to help children understand diseases, medical procedures and tests by using developmentally appropriate language.
We will address sickness and disease in this class. Even thought these topics will be discussed in a developmentally appropriate manner, learning about these topics may be too difficult for some students. Parents are encouraged to read through the course description and topics before signing up for this class.
