Class Experience

In this engaging class, students will dive into the history, rules, and techniques of a variety of sports. Each week, we’ll explore a different sport through reading and activities, uncovering its origins, how it’s played, and notable figures associated with it. This class is designed to broaden students’ knowledge of sports while inspiring them to discover activities they may enjoy in their daily lives.

What Will Be Taught:

Students will learn about the following:
-The history and evolution of various sports
-Basic rules, techniques, and scoring systems
-Key players, events, and milestones in the sports’ history
-How to choose activities that fit their interests and promote lifelong fitness
__________________________________________________________________

Topics Covered:

-Nine instructor-chosen sports (e.g., soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball)
-Six student-selected sports from a provided list (e.g., gymnastics, volleyball,
                            rugby, skateboarding)
-The role of physical activity in daily life and how it can benefit health and well-being

Each sport will have an accompanying learning packet that includes:
-Text: Descriptions of the sport’s history, rules, techniques, scoring, and related news
              or notes.
-Response Forms: Questions and puzzles to reinforce understanding and
          appreciation of the sport.

Class Structure:

-Weekly Focus: Each week, students will study a specific sport. The instructor will
provide a learning packet to guide exploration.

-Choice Sports: For six weeks, students will pick a sport from a list of “choice
sports” they are most interested in learning about.

-P.E. Log: Alongside the learning packets, students will maintain a P.E. log to track
their physical activity. This log encourages daily fitness activities of the
student’s choice, which don’t have to align with the sport of the week.

How It Will Be Taught:

- Learning materials will include written packets, questions, and puzzles to foster understanding.

-Students will engage with weekly content by reading, completing assignments, and reflecting on the material.

-The P.E. log encourages practical fitness habits and allows students to explore physical activities that suit their preferences.

-Student Interaction: Students will have opportunities to share their favorite sports during choice weeks and discuss their P.E. activities if they wish.

-Support: I am available to answer questions, provide feedback on assignments, and support students as they explore the world of sports.
