Class Experience

In this one time class, students will learn how the earth, moon, and sun move throughout outer space. Students will begin class by discussing the uniqueness of Earth and our resources that allow us to survive on our planet. We will then discuss the importance of the sun for providing heat and light on earth. Students will create a model of the earth, moon, and sun using paper and craft sticks. We will sing a song and move our sticks to show how the earth, moon, and sun interact. We will also discuss that the sun creates light and that light reflects off of the moon so that we can see it on earth.

Learning Goals

Students will:
-Explain the rotation and revolution of the earth, moon, and sun
-Sing a song to help them remember how the earth, moon, and sun interact.
-Create a model of the earth, moon, and sun

Teacher expertise and credentials
Greetings! My name is Carrie Mullins and I can't wait to meet your student in my classroom! My professional credentials include a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree with an emphasis in elementary literacy. I also have an endorsement in teaching English as a Second language (ESL). I taught in a public school setting for 14 years. Although, my degrees focused mainly on literacy, I found a love for teaching science and incorporating literacy skills into other subjects. I spent 9 years in a STEM lab at my most recent school. During this time, I managed our school garden/outdoor classroom, taught all grades in elementary (Kindergarten - 5th), held STEM nights for our families, and served as the teacher leader in the building for science. I currently teach online ESL classes to students in China. I also homeschool my children and we are currently in our eighth year of learning at home! We attend a co-op where I am part of our leadership team and teach various classes ranging from pre-school to high school. I believe that students learn best when they are engaged, interested in the topic, and active participants in the lesson. Many of my classes focus on some form of literacy (reading or writing). However, I love teaching students in all academic areas so along with literacy classes, I also offer classes in other core academic areas. Occasionally, I will offer a class that is simply fun and cover a variety of topics and hobbies! I look forward to seeing your student in my classroom!
