Class Experience

In this engaging 4-session course, students explore the States of Matter (Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma and Bose-Einstein Condensate) with intriguing examples from food creations and technological inventions! In the first session, we'll use the invention of popsicles as a jumping off point to study the 3 commonly-known States of Matter (solid, liquid, gas), and the unique molecular qualities of water in these states. In the second session, we'll explore the invention of refrigeration technology,...

Students will learn about:
- The physics of the 5 States of Matter (Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma and Bose-Einstein Condensate)
- Development of food products and technological inventions: popsicles, ice cream, freezers and refrigerators, plasma ball, tempering and chocolate making
- An introduction to molecular crystal structures and crystal growth

We're dedicated to introducing young students to the amazing world of quantum physics, technological innovation and design! We've been offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) classes and creating educational materials for students of all ages for over 15 years. We're excited to share this course content with more students through Outschool.

No required homework assigned, but students will be encouraged to jot down ideas, questions and observations in their Idea Journal, and will be given activities for further exploration.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Learner progress will be assessed through class participation and a fun, humorous quiz at the end of each session.

50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
