Exploring Story Elements Through Graphic Novels - Anthropomorphic Animals
In this 4-week class, students will read fun graphic novels about animals doing things that people do, and then discuss their story elements, such as characters, plot, genre, etc.

Join us as we explore the world of graphic novels as literature! My goal is to expose the students to the best of what graphic novels have to offer in order to grow a love of the medium, and a love of reading in general. Each week, students will read the assigned book and then come to class, book in hand, ready to discuss what they loved, what they didn't love, and all of the elements of story, such as plot, characters, setting, point of view, and genre. The books we will be reading are: Week 1 -"Jurassic Jeff: Space Invader" by Royden Lepp Week 2 -"Odd Duck" by Cecil Castellucci Week 3 -"Mr. Wolf's Class" by Aron Nels Steinke Week 4 -"Sidekicks" by Dan Santat Books can be purchased or borrowed from: -the public library (try the Libby app!) -your local comic book shop (support local businesses!) -Amazon -Ebay -Abebooks and other sites I also encourage you to buy used - think of it as recycling!
