Please join Miss Alyssa for a Space Exploration with the emphasis on NASA's recent success and landing of the Mars Perseverance Rover. We will discuss the recent landing of Mars Perseverance Rover and learn how it will look for signs of past microbial life, cache rock and soil samples. We will discuss the process and planning needed for this incredible journey and what led to this great success. We will take time to make predictions of what the rover will discover and what NASA's scientists will do with that information.
Learning Goals
Students will know they learned something from the lesson if they can do one of these things after class:
I can tell 3 facts about the planet Mars
I can give 2 details about the Mars Perseverance Rover
I can write 2 or more sentences describing what the mission is for and what the rover will look for
I can make a prediction about what the rover will find

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Alyssa Maestas and I live in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico!
I have been in education for over a decade and have had various roles such as a Public School Elementary Teacher, a Pre-K Teacher, a Developmental Specialist and most recently I took a position as a Statewide Teacher Coach who works with teachers across the state as they implement an evidence based program that encourages student success through a set of teaching strategies. Although I absolutely love my new role, I miss working directly with students and teaching content so Outschool is a wonderful option to continue teaching while I navigate my new role. I believe all students are capable and incredible people who will go on to change our world, for the better! I love being part of their journey. I will encourage students to be their best selves and know that peace, fun, and a love of learning is the key to student success.
I look forward to offering a range of classes. The topics I will begin with are:
1. Growth Mindset & Mindfulness - one class offered to 5-8 years old and the other for 9-12 years old
2. Phonics for Beginning Readers - 5-7 years old
3. Fluency for Beginning Readers 6-8 years old
4. Space Exploration - 7-10 years old
5. Future is Female- A look at women who have changed the world and ideas of how we can accomplish success and promote equal opportunity 8-14 years old
6. Pre-K Circle Time - weather check in, feelings check in, sing learning songs, count, dance.
7. Santa Fe Social - a social club for children in Santa Fe and surrounding areas to stay connected while we learn about our beautiful state!
