Temperate forests are known for their changing seasons and leaves however, there is so much more to see. In this one-time session, learners will discover the characteristics that define a temperate forest. We will discuss the different plants and animals that inhabit the forest floor and canopy and some of their adaptations and interesting facts. We will cover vocabulary such as habitat, adaptation, omnivore, nocturnal, and marsupial. A few of the organisms we will explore include ferns, mushrooms, beech trees, opossums, owls, and deer. The lesson is presented using a Google Slide Show to provide examples of the different organisms being discussed. Throughout the class, learners have the opportunity to ask and answer questions. Lets discover some of the amazing forest organisms together.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Teacher Daniela. I am a life-long educator from California. I have a Mild/Moderate Special Education Credential and have been teaching special education for more than 20 years. I also have a degree in Environmental Science -Biology. I mainly teach elementary and middle school life sciences and math however, I have also taught high school history and science.
I am a passionate educator who enjoys sharing my love of nature and science with others. I strive to make class time engaging for all students. I believe learning is best achieved through visuals, conversations (students not only learn from the teacher but also from each other), and when possible, kinesthetics (writing, drawing, building). My goal is to make learning enjoyable and memorable.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, putting together puzzles, taking photos, and watching science fiction movies. My greatest joy is being outside in nature. I love going for long walks with my two young children and seeing the world through their eyes. In California we are never to far from a forest, stream, desert or ocean that needs exploring.
