This is a movie discussion class focusing on the movie, "Beauty and the Beast." Learners will watch the original Beauty and the Beast movie from 1991 and answer a set of questions to prepare them for the class discussion on Day 1. Learners will get a chance to share their thoughts and opinions about the movie and explore storytelling elements like characters, plot, setting and theme. Also, we will explore why Hollywood remakes movies and why it is relevant. Learners will also get to test their Beauty and the Beast trivia knowledge with a game of Jeopardy. At the end of class, the learners will be assigned a project to complete for homework. The learners will present their project to the class on Day 2. Additional homework after Day 1 will be for the learners to watch the remake of Beauty and the Beast from 2017. They will be given a set of questions to answer after the movie. Also, they will have to compare and contrast the original and remake movie to find similarities and differences. On Day 2, we will discuss the learner’s thoughts and opinions of the movie and use the Venn diagram technique to compare and contrast the original movie and remake. At the end of class on Day 2, each learner will present their project to the class. I hope this class will encourage film appreciation for old school movies and will be a fun way to explore the movie, "Beauty and the Beast." No prior knowledge is needed for this class. The project presentation will be a creative way for the students to use their imagination and give them a way to connect more with the movie. See you in class!
