 Week 1
Lesson 1
Week 1 – Being successful in this class
Before we can get into the industry materials, we need to learn some basics. This week will be focused on getting used to the interface and creating objects in the same way as a class. Some may find it difficult at first, but practice makes habit. - Project: Modified Two Truths and a Lie
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Week 2 – Pen Mastery
Vector-based creations require artists to be able to create lines with the fewest anchors possible. In this lesson, students will complete 3 tasks set by the teacher, then put their skills to the test by creating a custom name tag - Assignment: Pen Mazes (self-assessment) - Project: Custom Name Plate
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Week 3 – Layering and Shape Creation
Now with the pen tool mastered, let's start to talk about layering. When we design, it's always best to break down the shape into parts and then build them back together. At the end of this lesson, you will submit a self-portrait of yourself. - Project: Self-Portrait
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Week 4 – Custom Shape Tools
You've got this now, so let's start building your company design. But an awesome designer needs shapes that are equally awesome. You will then submit your logo as this week's design challenge. Another great way to break into the field is by running your own t-shirt design. For your final challenge, you will create a t-shirt design as well as talk about some great ways to launch your business. - Project: Logo and Shirt Design
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Week 5 – Positive and Negative Shaping
If you want to make money as a designer, you must get some practice. This week we will focus on the hierarchy of design and demonstrate its use in marketing by building an event poster. - Project: Event Poster
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Week 6 - Finishing the course
As an experienced teacher, I know that life sometimes gets in the way. Week 6 is designed to help students finish any projects that they may not have been able to in previous weeks OR ask additional questions about techniques, vocabulary, or other items needed to be successful in Adobe Illustrator.
This class is taught in English.

Homework Offered
Each week you will receive a design challenge. These design challenges are intended to put your skills to the test and express your work as you see fit. Design challenges will vary from student to student to complete, but typically take 1-5 hours depending on how elaborate a design is. Since this work is all done asynchronously, students may find it best to spread the work out throughout the week to help ensure better retention. It is highly recommended that students maintain a notebook during this class as a reference tool to be used throughout the course and beyond.
4+ hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Each week, in addition to the design challenge, students will review at least 2 other students' work using a model known as "Delta-Plus". The teacher will also grade students based on a rubric provided each week looking at the skills being assessed.
Grades Offered

This class allows for student individuality and expression in a collaborative environment. While all topics in this course are written in a way that is appropriate for the age group intended, not all families share similar beliefs and standards, and students could share imagery that parents may not feel is appropriate for their child. Mr. Stahl only limits expression as required by law. In those instances, expressions will be removed as soon as Mr. Stahl becomes aware of the situation. Parents are encouraged to reach out to Mr. Stahl with any concerns and then the next steps can be determined. The next steps can include moving the student to a different section or refunding a prorated amount as outlined by Outschool.
