This 4 week class allows a student interested in the health/medical field to develop a service-learning project that is interdisciplinary. Subjects covered include research, technology, communication, public speaking, math, budgeting, persuasive writing, and interpersonal relationships. We will take a look at what service-learning is and the five steps of making an impact through the medical field. Students will understand how to - Be confident in their vision - Build a team and partnerships - Take action - Evaluate and learn - Celebrate and appreciate Service learning provides students with an opportunity to take learning to a whole new level as they apply what they know, use their skills, and address a community need. Benefits of service learning for students - develop skills in critical thinking and problem-solving, - apply knowledge in a constructive way, - obtain valuable hands on experience, and - reflect on experience (causing students to stand out on job applications, during college admissions process, and in scholarship interviews Even though this class is a self-paced class and can be completed based on the student’s schedules and needs, opportunities for interaction are provided and help make the class more enjoyable and engaging. Students that share their work during the course will receive feedback from the teacher. Additional resources may be selected based on each student’s interests. No background knowledge is needed. This Course Provides - Video lesson presentations - Downloadable slides - Comprehensive workbook/printables - Enrichment activities to apply learning - Project Management tutorial As a Self-paced class there are no LIVE meetings. The teacher will respond to emails and discussion promptly.
