This class will meet twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will follow this schedule : Objective: To engage students in critical analysis, reading comprehension, writing, and language skills through the exploration of classic literary texts. ⭐Reading Standards (Literature) - RL.8.X: RL.8.1: Students will analyze and cite textual evidence to support interpretations of literary texts, including themes, character motivations, and plot developments. RL.8.2: Students will identify the central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the narrative. RL.8.3: Students will analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents contribute to the development of the plot, characters, or theme in a text. ⭐Writing Standards - W.8.X: W.8.1: Students will write arguments to support claims using valid reasoning and relevant evidence. W.8.3: Students will write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences, events, or characters using effective techniques, descriptive details, and clear sequences. W.8.4: Students will produce clear and coherent writing appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. ⭐Language Standards - L.8.X: L.8.1: Students will demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar, usage, and mechanics. L.8.2: Students will determine and use appropriate vocabulary, including academic and domain-specific words. L.8.3: Students will analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including figurative and connotative language. ⭐Speaking and Listening Standards - SL.8.X: SL.8.1: Students will engage effectively in collaborative discussions, expressing their own ideas clearly and persuasively while respecting diverse viewpoints. SL.8.2: Students will analyze the purpose of information presented in diverse media formats and evaluate its credibility and accuracy. SL.8.3: Students will engage in discussions, expressing ideas with clarity, organization, and appropriate voice modulation, considering audience and purpose. These learning goals are aligned with the Common Core ELA Standards for 8th grade. Implementing lessons and activities that address these goals will ensure students' comprehensive development in reading, writing, language, and speaking/listening skills, enabling them to meet and exceed the designated standards.
