DESCRIPTION/GOALS: Words with Latin and Greek roots are longer and more difficult than the short words for ordinary objects that form the first layer of an English-speaking child’s vocabulary. Their meanings are more nuanced, more specialized. In order to acquire these words and learn how to use them appropriately, a young student needs to understand the meanings of their roots, prefixes, and suffixes. This course presents careful analysis of these word elements so that the student learns not only the modern meanings of the words but also their underlying, ancient meanings. Context exercises, fun activities, and cracking codes will help the student learn the correct and appropriate uses of these words. Each class will focus on specific roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Learning Latin and Greek roots will expand a students English vocabulary, help prepare them to understand the complexities of scientific and legal terminology, and jumpstart their learning of the Latin and Ancient Greek languages.

HOMEWORK: Online exercises and printable worksheets will be available for students to practice what they have learned.

CLASS: This course will use in an interactive presentation platform called Nearpod to facilitate an interactive and engaging class environment. I love the Latin and Ancient Greek languages and really anything that relates to the Greco-Roman world. I also have years of experience teaching Ancient Greek and Latin to a range of ages and skills levels online and in a traditional classroom. But, no matter who the student is I believe that learning should be a fun and engaging journey!
