In this joyful, small group class , we’ll explore big feelings in a playful, age-appropriate way—through music, storytelling, art, and movement. Using the beloved book The Color Monster by Anna Llenas as our guide, we help children name, express, and understand emotions while building early literacy and self-awareness. This class also serves as a warm and inviting first connection for families considering future learning opportunities with me. This is my very first class to offer to multiple learners at once, so we are learning and growing together here! Fun! 🎵 What to Expect in Our Live Session: Welcome Circle & Song We begin with If You’re Happy and You Know It—a fun way to move, sing, and build comfort in our group. Storytime & Reflection As we read "The Color Monster", we’ll pause to talk about each emotion and color. Learners will be encouraged to reflect and share their own feelings. Creative Art Activity Each child chooses one emotion and creates their own Color Monster using the printable or their favorite art materials. Mindful Breathing Moment We’ll learn a playful breathing technique to support calm and self-regulation. Show & Share Children present their artwork and share which feeling they explored, building confidence and emotional language. Printable Color Monster Cards Children will receive a colorful set of printable monsters to use during class as visual aids—a helpful tool for emotional connection and understanding. 💛 My Teaching Style This class is: ✔ Musical & Movement-Based – We use song and rhythm to connect and transition. ✔ Hands-On & Visual – Art and printables help deepen emotional understanding. ✔ Emotionally Supportive – Every child is encouraged to share at their own comfort level. ✔ Repetition-Friendly – Children are welcome to take this class more than once! 🔁 Can My Child Take This Class Again? Yes! Children learn through repetition—and each session offers a new opportunity to explore a different emotion through the same story. Your child may choose to create a new Color Monster, build on previous reflections, or simply enjoy the familiarity of a trusted routine. Returning students often deepen their emotional vocabulary and expression with each class. ✨ Why Join This Class? ~Builds emotional awareness and language ~Supports early literacy through shared reading and conversation ~Encourages creativity and choice through open-ended art ~Introduces simple calming tools Helps children feel seen, heard, and connected By the end of class, your child will walk away with: ✔ A deeper understanding of their emotions ✔ A set of printable Color Monster visuals ✔ A calming strategy they can use at home ✔ A one-of-a-kind art project to celebrate their feelings If your child is having big reactions to small things, you're not alone. Emotions can feel overwhelming at this age, and kids are still learning what to do with them. That’s where social-emotional learning (SEL) comes in. It gives children the tools to recognize their feelings, express them clearly, and begin to manage them. When we make time for this kind of learning—through play, stories, and art—we help children grow calmer, more confident, and better able to handle everyday challenges. It takes practice, but it makes a HUGE difference in a child's life...and in a parent's life as well. 🎨 Let’s bring emotions to life through music, color, and creativity—one monster at a time!

As a mom, early childhood educator, curriculum consultant, and certified health coach, I care deeply about raising emotionally healthy, resilient children—and supporting the parents who guide them. With over 30 years of experience teaching young children in both traditional classrooms and play-based, international school settings, my work has always centered on whole-child development. I'm really excited to help others here on Outschool!
Through my lived experience raising two boys, I’ve seen the life-changing power of social-emotional learning (SEL). Helping my own children name, express, and move through their big feelings wasn’t just helpful—it was essential. The emotional skills they gained in early childhood are the same ones they draw on as young adults navigating life today.
I created The Color Monster class: to give young children a joyful, hands-on way to explore emotions, build emotional vocabulary, and develop calming strategies they can carry into everyday life. This class blends everything I care about—connection, creativity, movement, mindfulness, and play—into one rich and meaningful experience. My goal is to meet each child right where they are, and give them the tools to grow into confident, emotionally intelligent learners and kind individuals.
