Class Experience

Is your child learning about environmental science, biology, ecology, earth science, or just has a general interest in the world around them? This class will definitely help them learn some of the objectives in any of those subjects. Does your child love to garden? Let's make a garden to keep in the house! During this class, we will look at the definitions, similarities, and differences of habitat, ecosystem, and biome. We will then focus on ecosystems for the remainder of the class. We will discuss the different ecosystems around the world and the elements needed to make an ecosystem. We will then settle on the forest as our ecosystem for which we will make a terrarium. As we build our terrarium together I will explain the different elements of the forest ecosystem. We will also discuss the importance of our environment and protecting habitats for our animal and plant friends.

This class will be taught through the use of a slide show to show pictures and short videos. I will lead them through the slides show with a discussion in which I will involve the students as much as possible with open-ended questions and review questions. As the class progresses we will build our terrariums using them to understand the parts of an ecosystem. Once the class is over they will be able to watch their terrarium grow and thrive with minimal effort on their part. This class is a fun enjoyable way to learn about one of the main components of any earth science curriculum.
