Class Experience

Why do certain people buy and sell certain goods? What drives us to interact the way we do in the market place? Students interested in expanding their knowledge of economics should join this class. The class is designed for students with a basic understanding of economics (such as supply and demand, costs vs. benefits, and competition). The class goals are to build on foundational economic ideas and explore in more detail how these concepts play out in the free market. Each week will include an engaging discussion followed by a quiz and a short assignment / activity to be completed before the next session.

Class 1 - Exploring Various Markets (including the Labor Market), Trade in Competitive Markets (Why Collaborate?),

Class 2 - Profits and Entrepreneurial Risk Taking , The Role of the "Middle Man" and Transaction Costs

Class 3 - Comparative Advantages, Efficiency, Production Possibilities, Consumer Spending Budgets

Class 4 - Understanding Economic Institutions (Banks, Corporations, Cooperatives, Labor unions), Rules of the Game (including Role of Private Property)

Note: This class is a portion of my Introduction to Economic Thinking semester course. If you are looking for a more comprehensive course, you may want to enroll in the semester course instead.
