Description

Class Experience

Students will learn about the civil rights movement and obstacles and struggles people of color faced throughout history. They will be exposed to movies that tackle difficult issues and can possibly open doors of discussion and conversation for understanding.
I have been a substitute teacher for six years for pre-k to high school students in all subjects. I am an avid movie fan and love all things film related. I have been an actor and filmmaker for the past seven years and enjoy teaching young people about the movie industry.
Students will be assigned a movie to watch every week. The movies will be discussed in every class. The following are the required movies to watch:
The Color of Friendship (2000) (Rated G) (available on Disney +)
Ruby Bridges (1998) (Rated PG) (available on Disney +)
Remember the Titans (2000) (Rated PG) (available on Disney +)
Hidden Figures (2016) (Rated PG) (available on Disney +)
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All movies are rated G and PG. I suggest watching the movies with your child if possible. All movies will address segregation, racism, discrimination, unconscious bias or unfair treatment against people of color.
