In this 45 minute course, students will learn about various fields of oceanography and jobs related to the world's marine habitats, including geology, geography, botany, geophysics, zoology, chemistry, math, meteorology and engineering.
Class experience
US Grade 8 - 11
The class will cover Oceanographic Careers, including the various fields of oceanography: Geology, geography, botany, geophysics, zoology, physics, biology, chemistry, geochemistry, mathematics, meteorology, engineering. Instruments used by each branch of the sciences will also be explored and demonstrated. I will share my real life experience as a biologist and working with scientists in each of these fields. Students will learn about the different careers available for fans of the ocean, and what skills, courses and training are necessary for those careers as well as what types of experiences come along with each job.
I am a retired marine biologist who worked on a team with other oceanographers in Rancho Nuevo Mexico working with the Kemp's Ridley sea turtle. I will share my personal experiences with various scientists as well as my training as an aquatic science instructor.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
