Course Overview:
Welcome to "Graphic Design Essentials Using Canva," a course designed for young learners aged 8 to 12. This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of graphic design through engaging, hands-on projects using the intuitive online tool, Canva. Over the week, learners will explore a variety of design techniques and apply them in real-world projects.

Class Experience:
The course provides a progressive learning experience where each class is structured to build upon the previous one. Instruction begins with an overview of graphic design principles, followed by practical applications that enhance students' creative and technical skills. Our interactive sessions encourage participation through individual projects and collaborative activities, fostering a dynamic learning environment.

Student Interaction:
Students will engage in a mixture of individual projects and collaborative tasks, allowing them to apply their skills while gaining feedback in a supportive setting. This approach helps enhance critical thinking and communication abilities, key components in the field of graphic design.

Requirements:

Technology: A computer with internet access is required. Tablets and iPads are not recommended due to compatibility issues with Canva.
Materials: All necessary materials are provided digitally through Canva.

Class Continuity:
Attendance at each session is crucial as content builds progressively to develop a comprehensive skill set by the end of the course.

Late Enrollment: Not permitted, to ensure all students start with the same foundational knowledge and maintain a cohesive learning progression.

Lesson 1:
Introduction to Graphic Design and Canva
 Students will begin by understanding the importance of graphic design and getting familiar with Canva’s interface. They will explore fundamental principles like alignment, contrast, and balance. Activities include an introduction to Canva’s tools and creating a basic design element.

Designing Invitations
 Students will learn the elements of design to create personalized invitations. The lesson covers the use of color, fonts, and images. Students will design an invitation for a fictional event and share their creations with the class, discussing their design choices.

Flyer Design
 This lesson focuses on developing skills to create attractive and effective flyers. Students will learn about layout and typography, then apply these concepts to design a promotional flyer for a school event. A peer review session will allow students to exchange feedback.

Creating Comic Strips
 Students will combine text and images to tell a story by designing a short comic strip based on a given theme. The lesson will cover narrative in design and include a group discussion on storytelling techniques. Students will create and share their comic strips.
