Big feelings like anger, sadness, and anxiety can feel overwhelming, but kids can learn skills to manage them in a healthy way. In this one-time class, we’ll explore why emotions feel intense, how the brain processes feelings, and practical ways to self-regulate. Using interactive discussions, real-life examples, and engaging activities, learners will leave with a better understanding of their emotions and simple coping strategies they can use in everyday life. In this class, learners will: Explore what emotions are and why they feel overwhelming. Learn how the brain reacts to big feelings. Discover simple strategies to calm down, express emotions safely, and build self-awareness. The class will be structured as a mix of guided discussion, storytelling, interactive activities, and reflection exercises. Learners will get to share their experiences (if they feel comfortable), practice different regulation techniques, and engage in group problem-solving. I use a warm and supportive teaching approach, encouraging open conversations in a safe space. My goal is to help kids feel heard, understood, and empowered with tools to manage emotions effectively. What topics will you cover? Why do we have big emotions? (Understanding the brain’s role in emotions) Recognizing feelings: How do we know what we’re feeling? Healthy vs. unhealthy ways to express emotions Simple coping strategies (breathing exercises, movement, creative outlets, self-talk) When and how to ask for help with big feelings How is your class structured? This interactive one-time class is structured as follows: Welcome & Icebreaker: Quick introductions & a fun "What’s Your Mood?" activity Understanding Emotions: A kid-friendly look at why our brains react to emotions Recognizing Feelings: Discussion & interactive exercises Coping Skills Toolbox: Learning and practicing different coping strategies Wrap-Up & Takeaways: Final reflections and strategies to use at home How will you teach?
