What's included
10 live meetings
15 in-class hoursClass Experience
Join us in this engaging way to learn United States history! Students will explore United States History from 1914 to 1970s. • Jewish Immigration to New York City (Meet Rebecca) • The Great Depression (Meet Kit) • World War II (Meet Molly) • Social Changes of the 1970s (Meet Julie) We plan to include the historical events of the country for the time studied. In addition, we will explore the culture, lifestyles, geography, and inventions of the time. We also begin to talk about some literary terms such as character, setting, and conflict as they are used in literary analysis. All students will keep a timeline (which can be continued if they take the other two Exploring American History with the American Girls segments offered in Winter 2019 and Spring 2019). All students will create a map of where the historical girls lived. Finally, all students will create one more project in which their parents will record them presenting and we will share in class. All classes are held LIVE, but we also record our classes and provide parents with the link to re-watch OR if a student must miss class. MANY of our students watch the recordings and are VERY successful. Eva Goldstein-Meola, M.Ed. as a Consulting Teacher of Reading and Writing, B.S as an Elementary Education Major/Reading Minor, has over 30 years in Reading/Writing/Classroom/Homeschooling experience will be teaching this class. Eva has spent the last 16 years instructing homeschoolers in (IEW) Writing and literature. She has been involved in virtual education since 2008 when it was in its infancy. In addition, Eva homeschooled her own (now 22-year-old) daughter. Finally, Eva Goldstein-Meola is IEW trained by Andrew Pudewa and has spoken at numerous conferences (both homeschooling and not) about the importance of writing in your child's life. Upon registration, you will receive a personal email from me, Eva Goldstein-Meola. Please check SPAM/JUNK folders if you do not receive it within 72 hours. This will provide you with directions for our VIRTUAL CLASSROOM, Jigsaw as well as our LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, CANVAS. AT Open Tent Academy (OTA), we use amazing technology to give your child the best advantages in virtual learning. Parent Testimonial: Just a quick note to thank you for a wonderful class! I was a little apprehensive that Cyrus and Ellis would balk at taking an American Girl themed class, but they thoroughly enjoyed your class and never once mentioned that it was girl-centric. Your combination of American history, geography, culture, and reading was perfectly balanced. Well done! ~ AKH – Northern Virginia
