Hi and welcome to my math class! Let's review our first grade math skills and get ready for second grade! Each week we will explore a different strategy (first grade level) for addition and/or subtraction to 20 with a fun theme. This class will run through August 23, with a SUMMER BREAK, JULY 1-5. Students will learn through demonstrations, slides/visuals, interactive activities, guided practice, and independent practice. We will talk about our mathematical thinking/reasoning along the way. Word problems will sometimes be used to connect math to real world situations. There will be an optional worksheet available after class to practice/reinforce what we learned in class. Here are the weekly lesson topics: June 3-7-- Decomposing (Ways to Make) 7 and 8 June 10-14 -- Decomposing (Ways to Make) 9 and 10 June 17-21 -- Doubles and Near Doubles June 24-28 -- Part/Whole and Missing Addends July 1-5 -- NO CLASS July 8-12-- Fact Families July 15-19 -- “Make a Ten” to Add (using ten frames) July 22-23 -- Adding 3 Addends July 29-August 2 -- Balancing Equations August 5-9 -- Word Problems August 12-16 -- Add/Subtract a Multiple of 10 With a 2-Digit Number (34 + 20 = ___ ) August 19-23 -- LAST CLASS Add/Subtract 2-Digit Numbers *This class is appropriate for students performing at or close to a First Grade level. *Materials: Supplies will vary each week. Teacher expertise and credentials
California Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello and welcome! My name is Ms. Sarah. I am a credentialed teacher with 18 years of experience teaching in the public, private, and online school settings. Most of my years spent teaching have been in first grade, which I love. I enjoy teaching Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with specialization in Early Childhood. I also have a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction.
I like to teach lessons that are interactive, engaging, meaningful, and fun. I want students to not be afraid to take risks in learning. Even if they don’t get the correct answer right away, that’s ok, as long as they try their best. Learning is an ongoing process and everybody learns at different rates and through different methods and styles.
I love animals and I have lots of pets, including dogs, birds, and bunnies. I also enjoy baking, tap dancing, and learning new things. I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
