Description
Class Experience
I earned a Masters in Urban Planning which included a World Cities seminar that required an extensive study of mapping the world throughout history, using a wide variety of sources, perspectives and analysis.
There are weekly mapping activities and a separate multi-week course project.
Paper, colored pencils, a world map or globe. An orange and black sharpie for week 1.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
As part of the course, tutorials for how to use Google Earth, National Geographic Map-Maker and World Atlas are included. These may be used for completing the course project, however paper maps and a globe would also work well, so these are not required. If a student wants to save their work in Google Earth, they would need a free google account (google drive). If a student wants to save their work in National Geographic Map-maker they would also need to set up a free account. No account is needed for World Atlas, and no account is needed for students to just practice on Google Earth or NG Map-maker.
