Nearly 500 years before the voyage of Christopher Columbus, Norse/Viking explorers braved the North Sea and founded settlements in Iceland, Greenland, and North America. Through a combination of luck, skill, and courage figures like Floki, Erik the Red, Freydís, and Leif Erikson journeyed beyond the known world.
