Homework will be listed in the virtual classroom under the WELCOME post. Homework is 100% optional for this class. If your children would like to complete homework, there are 3 different assignments they can choose from, depending on their skills and preferences. (Or they can do them all!) I have custom designed each handout for your child's benefit. Each homework activity is meant to be completed individually. You can choose between: 1) Chiapas Coloring Printable (printer required) This homework activity is suitable for younger students, or just kids who love to color! Remember to post pictures of your coloring creation after class. 2) Chiapas Word Search Printable (printer required) This is a word search that I've designed to help your child review the vocabulary that we used during class. Remember to post a picture of your completed word search after class. 3) Palenque Writing/Video Prompt (no printer required) Think about what it would've been like to discover Palenque. What a surprise! How would you feel discovering this amazing place in the jungle? Would you tell all your friends? Why is it important to share these discoveries with the world? Write at least 2 complete paragraphs explaining your answer. Alternatively, you can record a 1-3 minute video telling us about your thoughts. Remember to post it to the class so we can see it!Assessment
Learners will be assessed informally for this lesson. There are no letter grades given. However, I'll be in touch with parents and students after class with feedback!Grading

US Grade 2 - 5
Bienvenidos! In this one-time class, kids will prepare for their unique trip to southern Mexico! This is no cruise stop in Cozumel. Take advantage of my 7 years of experience living and traveling around Mexico. We'll practice talking about likes and dislikes in Spanish, so kids will be able to share their opinions with local people. Your kids will also learn about an ancient Mexican drink, and take a virtual tour of the ruins at Palenque. To get your kids fully engaged, this class features: -a Spanish vocabulary review game -a full-length slide presentation, featuring photos of Chiapas (custom designed) -a Jeopardy trivia game (custom designed) -a video tour of the ruins at Palenque, sourced from YouTube This is not only a basic Spanish class; this is cultural immersion. Your children will be ready for a REAL trip to Mexico, the local way. I'll guide the students through Spanish conversation, discussion of local cuisine and archaeology, and chatting about special travel experiences. No prior knowledge of Spanish or Mexico is required for this class. Do you have your plane tickets yet? ***PARENTS please be advised that there are two short YouTube videos featured in this lesson. See PARENTAL GUIDANCE section for detailed information. All handouts and printable pages are custom designed by me personally.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to discuss their likes and dislikes in Spanish by the end of this class. They will also expand their knowledge of an ancient recipe and the ruins at Palenque.
