Explore and Play: Watercolor Summer Camp

In this multi-day class, students will learn different techniques to explore and play with in class. We will spend the first part of class practicing the technique, and then complete a painting in the rest of class using these techniques.

Class Experience

**There will be no class on Monday, July 4 due to the US Holiday**

In each class, techniques will be taught, modeled, and practiced, then we will create a painting together. We will create a knowledge page for students to jot notes and paint the technique so they will have a way to remember what they learned long after camp ends. We will then spend the rest of class working on our projects, using the techniques practiced in class. The teacher will check if students need assistance or if they want to share their progress (though, not required).

On the first day, we will cover watercolor materials used and best practices for taking care of our tools. We will create an animal painting in this first class.

On the second day, we will review the color wheel, discuss testing pigments, as well as review warm and cool colors. We will create a nature painting in this class. We will also talk about how some colors convey emotions that vary between people.

On the third day we will learn lifting techniques, as well as layering and blending. We will complete a food painting project on this day.

On our fourth day, we will review each technique at the beginning of class, and work together to create a plan for our painting, which will be a nature scene.

On the last day, we will look at our paintings from the week and discuss what went well and what we can work on after our class is over. We will use all of the techniques from the class to create our final project. (will be voted on by students during week 3 so the teacher is able to create an outline ).

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! I've taught in a traditional classroom, in a creative arts school setting, online, and as a home school Mom as needed with our own unique learners. I believe that arts, music, and books add so much to our days, and want to provide classes that support these areas with your learners too! I love learning new arts, and have even learned to paint and play the piano, recently, as an adult. I have been crocheting and sewing for about 30 years, and hope to share my knowledge with other lifelong learners who want to be brave and try new things! I believe enjoying the process is just as important, if not more, than the end product. I model imperfection and share my thought process in how to improve our experiences. I hope to see you soon!
