US Grade 2 - 4
In this semester beginning geography class, students will be introduced to two states each week for thirteen weeks. We will meet twice a week for 13 weeks for 30 minutes each class. Students will learn about the geographical characteristics and climate of each state and be introduced to a National or State Park located in the state. Students will learn to locate the state on the map and learn what the state capital city is. Students will learn about the state's symbols, such as: state bird and animals, state flower, state tree, state insect. Students will learn the state's nickname or motto an different fun foods and activities you might find in each state. This is a teacher led class using pictures, power points and group games. A coloring page is provided each week. Students will be given the opportunity to share their experiences about the state and what they may like about the state. I believe that students learn best in a fun, active environment which will nurture a love of learning. Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Weber State University
I am Mrs V, as my classroom students call me. I teach phonics, grammar, science, math, and music classes. I am licensed to teach kindergarten through 6th grade. I also have a minor in music. I taught preschool for 6 years and I did student teaching in kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th grades. I have worked part time in the public school system for the last 5 years. I homeschool my two youngest children and enjoy finding fun new ways to teach things. I also teach ESL classes online. I believe that including the student's interests into the lesson engages the learning and makes learning fun and more easily attainable. Fun, hands on activities and games provide an engaging learning environment. My hobbies are animals (I live on a small farm), music (I minored in music), reading and crocheting. I love working with children and seeing the light in their eyes when they learn something new.
