Class Experience

In this course, students will delve into various aspects of writing, from foundational skills to advanced techniques. We can cover a wide array of topics, including idea generation, essay structure, grammar, vocabulary enrichment, and effective editing strategies. I will focus the sessions based entirely on your student's specific needs.

If your student wants a general writing class instead of working on a specific assignment together, then we will follow the following outline:

Week 1:
- Introductions
- Set expectations for the class
- Lecture and class discussion about how to focus on the assignment at hand and how to generate new ideas
- Preview homework assignment:
What do students specifically want to learn to write in this course (is there a specific focus area that the teacher can emphasize in the remaining class sessions)?

Week 2:
- Lecture and class discussion about the different types of writing outputs and how to structure them (short answers, creative essays, analytical essays, etc.)
- Preview homework assignment:
Write and submit a first draft of the desired type of writing output

Week 3:
- Receive valuable feedback and discuss the insights gained from the Week 2 homework assignment
- Lecture and class discussion about basic grammar rules and vocabulary enrichment
- Preview home assignment:
Write and submit a second draft of the desired type of writing output

Week 4:
- Receive valuable feedback on the writing output
- Discuss valuable editing strategies
- Discuss what were the most valuable lessons in the course and what might be changed

Each lesson starts with an assessment of the student's strengths and areas for improvement, followed by tailored exercises. The structure ensures a dynamic learning experience, combining theoretical concepts with real-time application. Have an assignment due soon and not sure how to get it done? Then our time can be focused on completing the assignment in the student's own voice, but with an expert's coaching.

My teaching methodology revolves around a personalized approach that caters to each student's unique learning style. I employ a mix of teaching methods, including interactive discussions, live editing exercises, writing prompts, and slide presentations to reinforce learning.

My teaching style is collaborative and supportive. I encourage a nurturing environment where students feel empowered to express themselves creatively while mastering essential writing skills. My focus is on fostering confidence and self-expression while honing technical abilities.

Learners will have substantial interaction throughout the sessions. While I incorporate some lecture-style teaching to introduce concepts, the bulk of the class involves engaging activities. Students participate in discussions, analysis of sample essays, and collaborative editing sessions. No prior writing experience is required—this program is tailored to accommodate all skill levels, from beginners to advanced learners. The only prerequisite is a willingness to learn and grow as a writer.
