Class Experience

"What's a good thesis?" or "How do I write an essay?" or "Why am I getting a low mark in English?" or "How do I help my child succeed?"

These are common questions that I hear all the time from learners. Well, I am here to help! With my experience, education, and energy, I know how to engage students and show them the next steps through modelling, concrete examples, constructive feedback, clear instructions, and differentiated instructions. Students will quickly learn how to improve their Essay Writing.

Part 1:
Understanding and Writing an Effective Thesis -- What is a thesis? What constitutes a "good" thesis? Looking at real examples and step by step building blocks, students will learn new strategies and craft stronger arguments.

Part 2:
Creating a Captivating Introduction -- How do I start an introduction? How does it connect with the thesis? Students will see how to write a smooth introduction that functions to engage readers and how the introduction frames the structure for their entire essay.

Part 3:
Developing Body Paragraphs -- What is a topic sentence? How do I use examples/quotes/evidence in the paragraph? How do I analyze? Students will begin to write effective paragraphs that prove their thesis.

Part 4:
Leaving a Noteworthy Conclusion -- How does a conclusion work? Students will develop the basic structure of a conclusion and learn how higher level conclusions are more than restating your ideas.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone!

Over the past decade, I have been helping thousands of students achieve their learning goals. I advocate equity and inclusivity in my teaching, helping students feel safe, while being challenged so they can learn with tangible results. Students feel more empowered and confident in writing, reading, and speaking, and ultimately, find a greater sense of voice and authenticity as my lessons are scaffolded to meet benchmarks. Students will be required to demonstrate their learning throughout my classes and will be given constructive feedback so they have next steps.

Having graduated from University of Toronto (Deans List) and with High Distinctions, a specialist in English Literature and Writing + being a certified teacher (B.Ed), I know I can assist any learner.

Through models and real examples, students will see my writing and will see me participate in the learning process as well--I walk the talk when I teach.
