"Children are born with all the curiosity they will ever need. It will last a lifetime if they are fed upon a daily dose of ideas." This quote from Charlotte Mason, a turn of the century educator, drives this course. In every 40 minute meeting, children will be introduced to "the riches" of education. We will study classical composers and amazing artists, and students will be encouraged to examine the nature they find around them. Students will ask questions, observe details, compare and...
Students will build their ability to notice and retell details in artwork, music and nature. Students will learn to appropriately share ideas, opinions, and questions about classic works and nature. Students will identify details about the lives of classic composers and artists. Students will retell details about a nature theme, such as the features of reptiles.
I hold a California Teaching Credential, and I am currently homeschooling my children using Charlotte Mason's methods.
Optional: Between classes, students can collect or observe and draw a picture of something from nature that pertains to the theme. These items/drawings can be brought to class to share.
1 file available upon enrollmentAn *optional* worksheet will be provided before class to be printed if the child desires. Students should bring a paper and pencils/colored pencils. A small sketchbook or journal to keep notes or nature sketches in may be beneficial, but is not necessary. Students can, if possible, bring an item or a picture of an item observed in nature that fits the theme. Please see the description for the theme of the month.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Classic artwork may have religious themes due to the culture of the time when the art was created. No religious beliefs will be promoted.
We will use images of the artwork and audio clips of the music during class.
