This program explores one of Florida’s most life sustaining treasures and embarks on an expedition down the “River of Grass”. During this classroom safari students will explore the nine ecosystems embedded within this slow-moving river system. We will investigate the rich biological diversity that calls the Everglades home and discuss endangered species like the Florida panther and American crocodile. Students will learn about ecology as we embark on a discussion of Florida native wildlife and their relationships with the Everglades. We will also introduce the concept of invasive species, and environmental stewardship. Engineering principles like hydrology will be taught as well as the chemistry of water quality testing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be given worksheets to do at home that reinforce the concepts.
