Description
Class Experience
Students will be able to improve their short-stories and novels based in a world where magic and wizards are real. We will create unique and believable stories and think critically about how to improve. We will discuss how to create an engaging beginning, stronger characters, an immersive world and exciting plot points.
I graduated with a bachelor's degree in creative writing and literature from Western Kentucky University. I am experienced in hosting and participating in creative-writing workshops and studied under many well-known, published professors at my university whose expertise was in the "horror" and "fantasy" genre.
No homework will be assigned, but students can submit their work in the classroom after class for teacher or peer review and feedback. Learners have the option to privately message me their work. They may also come to class with an already written short story to strengthen during our lesson. This is completely optional.
No assessment and sharing their work during our workshop portion is not required if they are not comfortable. Students can submit their work after class for teacher review and private feedback. This is completely optional.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Creative writing can contain themes that some may consider frightening or sensitive: blood, monsters, sickness, characters may potentially handle weapons like wands. I will encourage students to keep the stories appropriate for our classroom and will give writing prompts to guide them in the right direction.
