1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Every week, the students will get to know the others in the group by answering a basic question like "What is your favorite holiday?" Then, there will be a brief time of teaching the writing type for the week and any additional notes. The students will be given 10-15 minutes to complete their writing and if there is time, students have the option to share their work with the class. *Class topics are subject to change. Second Week of March: We will be learning about the different parts of a story as well as personification. We will practice using personification to describe the student's own story setting and characters. Third Week of March: Practice Writing a thank you card. Students will have the opportunity in this class to write at least one (if not multiple) letters of gratitude to people they appreciate. Fourth Week of March: Free write about your favorite school subject. Students will be taught the basics of alliteration and include this poetic skill in a short poem about their favorite subject. First Week of April: Haiku poems. Students will learn (or review) identifying syllables in a word, then they will put this knowledge into practice by writing a haiku poem. Second Week of April: Bring an object to class. Students will have the opportunity to write a short story that includes the object they brought to class. Third Week of April: Timed fantasy/fairytale. Students will have the opportunity to brainstorm as a group and create a short fantasy or fairytale story outline. Then they will be timed to individually write a part of it. If time allows, the students will share what they have written. Fourth Week of April: Imagine yourself 20 years from now. Who will you be? What will you be doing? Where will you want to be living? Students will use these prompts to use themselves as a character in a short story. More topics plan to be added as we get closer to May. :)
Learning Goals
My goal is for the students to love writing, to have fun, and to know that this is a safe environment where they don't have to worry about being perfect with their spelling or grammar.
