Class Experience

Get ready to burn some energy! In this ongoing class, we will be using a fitness version of popular games to have fun moving our bodies through various exercises.

The class will start with a full range of motions to warm up the body in preparation for exercise.

The bulk of the class will be spent playing the weekly exercise game. Exercises will include at least one movement from the following categories: Strength, Cardiovascular, Flexibility, Endurance, Balance. Some examples may include but not limited to jumping jacks, planks, burpees, jump and turn, lunges and more. Completion of the weekly game will be rewarded with a dance party!

We will end the class with a cool down meant to bring heart rates back down to include stretching. If time permits, each learner will have the opportunity to participate in a chat/sharing session.

This class will not be a typical exercise class. I acknowledge that exercise should be fun, therefore I often change the name and alter a basic exercise slightly to make it more appealing to the young learners. For example, jumping jacks will be wacky jacks, executed a bit different but still working the same goal.

No weights will be needed for this class. We will be our own body weight as resistance.

• 10/2-10/8 This or That: Learners will be encouraged to practice quick decision making skills by selecting one of two pictures as their preferred activity. Once selected, that choice will correspond with a 20 second fitness activity.

• 10/9-10/15 Scavenger Hunt: During this quick paced scavenger hunt, learners will be given a description of an item that they must move around to find in their space, touch and return to the screen to receive their exercise.

• 10/16-10/21 Escape Room: The Escape Room map will be screen shared with learners with Google Slides. Learners will each have a turn to practice map skills through choosing which direction on the map to travel. "Getting lost" means everyone performs the exercise listed to get back on track.

• 10/22-10/29 Fitness Bingo: I will randomly select a bingo ball and show the learners. Each learner will have a turn to use the letters and numbers on the balls to tell the class the coordinating exercise found on the Fitness Bingo card that I have screen shared.

• 10/30-11/5 Fitness Uno: In this version of Uno, each learner will take turns viewing the Uno card I show the group. The learner will then refer to the Uno board screen shared with GoogleSlides to determine what the group exercise is. The learners do not need their own deck of Uno or playing cards. They will be selecting from my deck of cards.

• 11/6-11/12 Battleship: This classic game now has a fitness twist. Players will work together to sink 5 battleships. A “miss” means the player gets to challenge the class to a fitness move. Sinking a ship means we all get to go CRAZY! Sink them all before time runs out.

Check back for the schedule for the coming weeks. This class runs all year long.
