Class experience

Teacher Jennifer is special education certified; has several years of experience leading children’s fitness classes at the YMCA; is an Accessible Yoga Ambassador; and has over a decade of experience leading chair exercise and Yin Yoga classes for seniors and persons with disabilities. In October 2020, she had the wonderful privilege of attending RE20 Virtual Live, the annual Rollettes Experience hosted by the Los Angeles wheelchair dance team.
Hand weights or a safe substitute (such as full water bottles). In the beginning, learners should use a weight amount that they can easily lift overhead. After approximately 10 days or 2 weeks of classes, that weight can be increased to a level with which the learner feels comfortable.

Resistance stretch bands. But items (such as a bath towel) can easily be substituted for the bands.

It is important to stay hydrated. Each student should have plenty of water available to drink throughout class.

It is helpful to wear clothing that is comfortable and allows for ease of movement. Being barefoot or wearing only socks may give the student more freedom to stretch, point, and curl toes and to rotate ankles. But, students may choose to wear shoes; in which case, a flexible sole is usually best (with some exceptions**). **Each student’s situation is unique. If you have questions, please contact me. Thank you.

Open space. The learner needs to be able to swing their arms and kick their feet in every direction without, for example, knocking over a lamp, bumping a table, or getting caught in an electrical cord.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The needs and situation of each learner is unique. It will be the responsibility of each parent to determine if their assistance and guidance – and, therefore, their presence -- is required for each session.
