During this multi-day class, learners will focus on expanding their existing collection of executive functioning skills in targeted skill areas, as well as increase their self-confidence and advocacy skills.

Class Experience

During this, once a week class, students will learn what Executive Functioning skills are, how they help assist our success, and ways in which we can enhance these skills to support growth, development, and self-confidence. 

Learner to learner interaction is encouraged. The teacher will facilitate ongoing dialogue, and fun and interactive activities to help learners understand the concepts being taught. The teacher uses scenario examples, videos, crafts, games and other engaging materials throughout the class, in conjunction with the main google slides presentation to support learner interaction, and knowledge development. 

Each week, after class, worksheets and/or information sheets will be uploaded to the classroom for further exploring and homework, to support skill area development.The weekly topics are as follows:
Week 1: What is Executive Functioning? 
Week 2: Planning and Prioritizing. 
Week 3: Organization
Week 4: Time Management
Week 5: Task Initiation
Week 6: Working Memory
Week 7: Metacognition
Week 8: Self Control, with an emphasis on Self-Regulation
Week 9: Focus and Sustained Attention
Week 10: Mental Flexibility
Week 11: Perseverance
Week 12: Keys to Success activity

Learners do not need any previous skills or experience to participate in this class.

Ms. Sheera has a 4 year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child and Youth Care and a 3-year college Diploma in Child and Youth Work. She has been creating and facilitating emotional regulation groups for over 20 years in numerous environments, such as in schools, group home facilities and community centres; and with a variety of children and youth (i.e. children and youth with ASD, ADHD, OD, CD, anxiety diagnoses, as well as neurotypical children and youth). 
Ms. Sheera has the following training certifications and continuously participates in professional learning opportunities:
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certification
- Mental Health First Aid certification
- Understanding and Intervening in the Cycle of Youth Violence training
- Single Sessions Counselling certification
- Courageous Conversations, Confronting Racial Discrimination and Anti-Black Racism (monthly ongoing opportunity)
- Indigenous Perspectives on Mental Health and Trauma training sessions
Ms. Sheera is also a Professional Member of the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care.
Ms. Sheera is a neurodivergent educator with an ADHD diagnosis.
