1 in-class hoursClass Experience
Not getting the grades you want on tests or quizzes? Got a big test coming up and you are overwhelmed just thinking about where to start? This class is for you! Students in this class will explore what's working (and what's not) with how they currently prepare for tests, learn and practice the key step that most kids skip before beginning to study for a test, and practice strategies that work for helping with memorization AND synthesis (that's taking what you've memorized and being able to apply it - which is what most tests will want you to be able to do!). Learning about tests can be BORING, so this class will not be primarily lecture-based. Students will have the opportunity to play interactive games and engage in discussion and activities that require them to put what they learn into practice. This class is best for students preparing to take classroom tests and quizzes or final exams, but the strategies can be used when thinking about how to prepare for standardized tests as well.

Georgia Teaching Certificate
Hey hey! I'm Ashley, a former teacher and current school counselor from Atlanta, GA with over 10 years of experience working in schools.
I'm a certified educator in my state, holding certifications in School Counseling (K-12), Special Education - Learning and Behavior Disorders (K-12), and Elementary Education (K-5). I have worked with students in every grade level from K - 12 over the course of my career (whew!), but working with students between 5th and 9th grades is my jam. I currently work full-time as a high school counselor.
I have received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Psychology from Emory University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Bellarmine University, and a Master of Education in Professional Counseling from the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!). Most of my classes will be focused on teaching kids skills that will help them to become the best version of themselves, both as a student and as a human being. This includes stuff like anti-racism, studying, time management, communication, organization, managing friendships, etc. I'm open to suggestions, so send them my way if you have a specific request!
I believe that learning should, first and foremost, be FUN! Even adults don't want to spend an hour doing a bunch of boring activities (and they surely won't retain much, anyway!), so I don't believe we should force kids to do so either. My curriculum is built upon evidence-based strategies (including those that are research-based and those that I've personally seen work with the students I serve) because I don't believe in spending time on things that don't work and that aren't proven to be effective.
When I'm not teaching, I love to organize and decorate my home, travel to delightfully warm places, eat fresh & delicious meals, read, dance, and spend time with my family and fur babies.
I'd love for you to stay connected, so find me on Instagram (@itsashleyclay) and Facebook (Middlerific by Ashley Clay).
Thanks for considering a class with me - I can't wait to meet you!
