Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their reading comprehension, knowledge of literary genres, grammar, writing, speaking and listening skills, and ability to read textual features. If desired, complete Common Core standards and goals can be provided for each lesson as the magazines are received.

- Storyworks 3 supports the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and similar state standards. The authentic texts and specially-designed lesson plans and activities in this language-arts magazine support anchor standards in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.

- Storyworks 3 is aligned with the revised Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in English Language Arts and Reading. See how this multigenre resource supports all seven TEKS strands through listening, speaking, reading, writing and thinking.

I am a licensed English teacher and have taught English, language arts, and writing for seven years. Storyworks 3 magazine is a wonderfully engaging resource for even the most reluctant readers, yet it also offers wonderful enrichment opportunities for the accelerated students, as well. The class enrollment cost includes the digital subscription to the magazine, the worksheets, handouts, videos, and me, Mrs. Zerr, to guide the lessons, unpack vital information, offer supportive and constructive feedback, and simply help each student to grow to their best potential.
Students will receive a Google Slides lesson "slide deck" each week that will help them progress in each lesson, including embedded links to articles, lesson materials, videos, and embedded audio clips of Mrs. Zerr teaching the lesson.
Students will be provided a digital magazine, lesson materials, worksheets, and videos in class.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
When students complete each slide deck, they can share the Google Slides lesson slide deck with me, and I will leave encouraging and helpful feedback and comments for each student.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need a Google login to be able to access and copy a lesson slide deck. We will not be using Google Classroom at all--it's simply so that you can get a copy of the lesson materials.
Scholastic Storyworks 3 Magazine is used with express written permission with Mrs. Zerr purchasing digital licenses for the online magazine and resources.
