Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
In this beginner lesson, learners can expect a fun and light-hearted look into the daily life of praying mantis and other mantids. If your learner likes action and adventure they will love to learn how these real life ninja warriors are so well adapted at hunting.

Learners will be exposed to technical terms such as Mantodea, raptorial legs, pro-thorax, etc.

Key points about their life cycle and ecology will lay the ground work to understanding these fearsome predators. Together, we will discuss the different features and how they make mantises successful in their natural habitat.

Short video clips and an interactive game show, will be used to help solidify what is being taught. Links to videos will be posted after class, for students to continue watching on their own time and pace.

If there is time at the end of the lesson, students will be given the opportunity to draw a praying mantis, using the knowledge they learned. We will then do a show and tell of each drawing, where students will explain the adaptations and ecology of the praying mantis they have drawn.

Hello! I offer learners the opportunity to dig deep into the fields of entomology, greenhouse growing, and academic writing.

I have a bachelors in Biological Sciences and a diploma in Greenhouse Technology. I have been teaching for over 5 years and I have experience both in the classroom and online. I’m a former college Entomology instructor, turned homeschool mother, cookie decorator, online ESL teacher and academic writing tutor. I have a passion for quality, meaningful learning that I bring to any age group or intellectual level.

I believe teaching should be fun, engaging and interactive. I stand by the idea that students learn best in an environment that allows them the freedom to explore, be creative and think critically.

Personally, I enjoy hiking, reading, and baking artistic treats. I also run a small cookie business.

You will find my personality, experiences and interests sprinkled into each lesson as I strive to relate and stay relevant to students. I look forward to welcoming you into my classroom.
