Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
**In order to fully participate in the game at the end of each class, learners should be comfortable reading questions on their own. I will be there to assist**

Each week in this ongoing course, learners will be provided the opportunity to explore and discuss the exciting differences and similarities of insects. From the plumose antennae of moths to the powerful saltatorial legs of grasshoppers, learners will be able to answer what makes up an insect. Using proper scientific terms and vocabulary, learners will be able to identify the important structures that makes each insect group unique.

With unique structures comes unique functions as learners think critically about the why and how things work. Although technical and information packed, I always leave time for comprehension checking games, interaction, and inquisitive minds. Presentation slides with visuals and short video clips will help support discussion as learners are brought into the learning process.

A new vocabulary list will be provided every week for learners to extend their learning. Learners should also come prepared to draw and label various insect parts.

Class will be scheduled once a week and each class is independent of the other. Class topics will be modified based on students interests

Hello! I offer learners the opportunity to dig deep into the fields of entomology, greenhouse growing, and academic writing.

I have a bachelors in Biological Sciences and a diploma in Greenhouse Technology. I have been teaching for over 5 years and I have experience both in the classroom and online. I’m a former college Entomology instructor, turned homeschool mother, cookie decorator, online ESL teacher and academic writing tutor. I have a passion for quality, meaningful learning that I bring to any age group or intellectual level.

I believe teaching should be fun, engaging and interactive. I stand by the idea that students learn best in an environment that allows them the freedom to explore, be creative and think critically.

Personally, I enjoy hiking, reading, and baking artistic treats. I also run a small cookie business.

You will find my personality, experiences and interests sprinkled into each lesson as I strive to relate and stay relevant to students. I look forward to welcoming you into my classroom.
