I think making learning enjoyable and bringing science to life is the best way to get kids engaged and learning without realising it. My classes focus on the Geology and Geophysics part of Earth Science. No previous experience necessary. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬ In this class we'll take an overview of the subjects that Geology and Geophysics cover. We'll look at how Geologists identify rocks and minerals and how they use this to investigate the Earth and propose scientific theories about how it formed and the processes that are still aactive to this day. We'll also look at how this subject can be applied in numerous career options and see what is involved in these jobs on a day to day basis. We'll introduce the main concepts used in Earth Science and Geology and get an overview of the 3 main rock types found on Earth. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬ I use powerpoint presentations for all my classes, so I can mix text and multimedia and make the class more interesting. This class will be run using an "intro-discussion-repeat" format. This means I will take a few minutes to introduce a topic, using images or videos wherever appropriate in order to bring the subject alive. Then we will pause to take questions and make sure everyone is keeping up. Then we'll move on to the next exciting sub-topic and supporting material, and then pause for questions after that one too. This means that you can enjoy the class however you like. Speak up and get involved and ask questions, or just listen and enjoy with no pressure. If you like this class then you check out my full "Earth Science" courses, with subjects cherry picked to choose the most interesting, accessible and relevant Earth Science subjects for kids, so they learn to enjoy exploring the world around them. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ LINKED TOPICS ▬▬▬▬▬ This class can be taken on its own, but is best used as an intro to my other "Exciting Earth Science" classes, such as: 1) Exciting Earth Science: Plate Tectonics, Continent Smashing & Metamorphic Rocks 2) Exciting Earth Science: Geological Time, Continental Drift, Pangea & the Fossil Record Please see my other class listings for more lessons in the School of Hard Rocks!
Learning Goals
