Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Did you know that the subject of poop, farts and anything gross has made children giggle throughout the ages? If you agree- join this fun, three-week class that discusses all things vile! In this class, we will be learning about some fascinating animal poop and fart facts as well as the very grotesque version of Roman History. Everything is guaranteed to gross you out while still being totally factual! Learning and laughter will be guaranteed in these interactive classes!

The first week we will be looking at Poo! We will begin the lesson by introducing ourselves and telling the group what our favourite animal is. Learners will find out what the name for the study of poop is called and why it is an important field of study. They will then play a game called 'Guess the poop!' and try to match a poop picture with the animal.
There will be an interactive discussion about the most bizarre and interesting animal poop facts.
We will then practice a poop tongue twister together and finally draw a poop emoji.
The class will end with a small quiz.

The second week all things farts will be discussed! Which animal makes loud farts? What is the importance of a cows fart? Do all animals fart? Which animal has the smelliest fart? These are just some of the questions we will answer. Farting is always fun to laugh and talk about- so if you enjoy toilet humor while learning, you will enjoy this! The class will start off with an ice-breaker and then we will move on to a fun guessing game. We will then learn a range of fabulous farting facts and end the lesson with a quiz and a sketch of our favorite animal farting.

In the third week I will be role-playing a woman from Ancient Rome that has travelled time and is confused with the way things are done in today's world. Namely the hygiene and the toilet side of things. Children will find out a few things that the Romans were famous for, but the focus will be on how revolting and rotten many of their practices were. Find out why going to the toilet was a very dangerous business. Not just dangerous, but more a matter of life and death. Find out the incredible ways the Romans used pee for and what they used instead of toilet paper! This class will leave students grateful for the way things are today and pretty horrified by what it used to be like.

At the very end of the camp/course students will be given a gruesome certificate that they can hang on their walls to show that they are experts in all things rank, rotten and revolting!

All three lessons are lessons created and presented by myself. No other resource or material is used apart from my own presentation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Carlin King. I am a Year 1 teacher living and working in the United Kingdom. I have been a primary school teacher for more than ten years and love being part of the formative years. I have been trained in a number of different phonetic programmes including RWInc (Read, Write Inc).

My greatest passion is teaching children to read and write. As a child, I loved to write stories. I found it came naturally to me as I was a total book worm. However, as a teacher, I have seen that many children struggle with creativity, vocabulary and sentence structure when it comes to their writing. When children have both a writing model and an interest in the subject matter - that is when creative writing takes shape. Engaging and exciting themes, fun and well-written books and fascinating historical events and characters are just some of the subjects I like to use in my writing lessons. These classes will be for primary school children roughly between the ages of 5-8. Basic phonetic knowledge needs to be there as we can then sound out and build sentences together.

I am a firm believer in teaching phonics when it comes to fluent and confident reading. I have been teaching children to read throughout my teaching career and have had many experiences in different phonetic programmes. I decided to create my own phonic reading scheme, using what I know works, and make it engaging and exciting for children.
I believe teaching is about having fun and allowing children to get emersed in a subject. As a teacher, I strive to be a guide - allowing children to let their interest and curiosity drive their learning. As a child, I loved school and was privileged to go to more than one school as I spent my childhood living in different parts of Africa. I was born in Nambia and then moved to Ghana when I was nine years old. As a teenager, I attended a wonderful boarding school in South Africa. I now live in England with my husband and two gorgeous babies.
