In this three week class, students will look at how the role of women in crime dramas has changed over time- from the damsel in distress to top lieutenants in a police department.
Class experience
US Grade 10 - 12
Students will look at crime drama detectives and the evolution of the role of women over 3 weeks. In week 1, students will look at the role of women in crime dramas from the 1940s- 1970s. In week 2, students will look at the role of women in crime dramas from the 1980s-early 2000s. In the third week, students will look at women in crime dramas from 2010- present. Some crime dramas that will be looked at will be The Big Sleep, Maltese Falcon, Dragnet, Hill St Blues, Remington Steele, Law and...
Students will learn about women empowerment over time and the role of women in crime dramas from damsels in distress to high ranking detectives.
I am a social studies teacher. I love crime dramas. In college, I took a Women in LIterature class in college and my final project was the evolution of women in crime dramas for which I received an A.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will be showing clips from detective shows.
