Evidence Based Literacy Instruction- Pre-Reading
This "Pre-Reading" course will ensure students have mastered sounds and shapes of all letters, and work on blending sounds into simple words. Introductory Phonics and Phonemic awareness will be explicitly taught, and practiced each week.

Class Experience
Learning to read is not naturally developed like walking and talking. It needs to be explicitly taught by methods that will reach all types of learners. In this course students will gain mastery through explicit multi sensory instruction, seeing, saying, writing along in class. Each class we will sing the sounds of the alphabet and most common digraphs. Students will have a print out of the letters with pictures to point to and follow along, and look back to as we identify sounds in words....
This is not your typical "have fun playing with your ABCs" class. We will have fun, but my goal is to prepare students to read independently. A student with a strong understanding of the alphabetic code will begin their reading journey on a solid foundation. A student joining this class should be able to sing their ABCs, and write their name.
I am a Reading specialist at a high need title 1 school. I also have a private practice where I provide intervention to students who have dyslexia. Teaching reading is my favorite thing in the world. If you are struggling or just need support I would love to be a resource to any family working to improve their child’s reading fluency/comprehension.
Work pages will be posted following the first class. Bring our activities into your daily routines. We live in a text rich world, use this as a natural tool. Challenge your child to find letters around town, or even in your home.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
