Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Welcome to our self-paced elementary spelling class, designed to provide students with a strong foundation in spelling, fluency, decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension. Our aim is to help students become proficient readers, excel in reading, and develop a genuine love for learning and exploring new information, thus enhancing their performance and comprehension across all subjects and areas of life.

Mary McLeod Bethune once said, "The world opened up to me when I learned to read."

This course embodies the spirit of her words, intending to unlock the doors to knowledge and opportunities for your child. We focus on a new spelling pattern each week, emphasizing rapid decoding, sentence fluency, passage fluency, comprehension strategies, and writing skills. Additionally, we include fun and engaging weekly games to reinforce learning and make the process enjoyable for students.

While English can often seem unpredictable, and many suggest memorization as the key, we believe that understanding the patterns within the language makes it easier and more enjoyable. Students can build a positive relationship with the language by understanding how English actually works, fostering a love for learning and cultivating lifelong curiosity.

Key Features:

- Weekly Spelling Patterns: Discover and master a new spelling pattern each week, making English more predictable and manageable.

- Fluency Development: Improve rapid decoding, sentence fluency, and passage fluency to enhance reading comprehension and speed.

- Comprehension Strategies: Engage with texts more deeply through strategies like predicting, summarizing, and connecting ideas.

- Writing Enhancement: Apply spelling patterns in writing to enrich vocabulary, improve sentence structure, and develop strong writing skills.

- Interactive Games: Enjoy weekly games designed to reinforce spelling and literacy concepts, making learning fun and effective.

- Curated Resources and Books: Access our favorite resources and level-appropriate books to support your child’s learning journey and expand their love for reading.

This course is designed for elementary students and families seeking to build a strong foundation in literacy, fostering not just skills but a lifelong love for reading and learning.

Join us in making English a more understandable, enjoyable, and integral part of your learning journey!

Additional Class Resources: EdPuzzle is a website where students will be able to watch the weekly lesson and answer questions built into the lesson. I will be able to see their answers, monitor progress, and provide feedback as necessary. Families might need to create a free account per student to track progress. Directions will be provided the first week. Gimkit: Gimkit is a website where students can play games while reviewing our spelling pattern of the week . You are also free to create a free account to collect experience points while playing for additional character skins on the Gimkit website. Not necessary for class. I will also be able to monitor the questions their answer correctly and incorrectly. Based on this information I can provide feedback or additional resources as needed. Teachers Pay Teachers: Through Teachers Pay Teacheds we will be using their Easel platform where I will send your weekly assignments. Through this website you are able to type, draw, and highlight directly onto the digital document and then "Turn it in" to me. I can return it to you with my feedback. This makes it easy for parents to see all of their work in one place and monitor their progress weekly. Students should create a free account to be able to have access to all of their work in one place. Students may also be asked to handwrite some assignments .
Supply List
We offer digital versions for all work, but we suggest having a dedicated notebook to practice physically writing words and writing assignments.

Welcome to Level Up Literacy and Math Lab, where literacy science meets fun and Elementary and Middle School Math are made easy!

Literacy Classes:
Here we give dynamic, engaging, and personal Literacy classes. Literacy is a life skill, not just a learning objective, a box to check, or even a task that can be evaluated with a letter grade. It is the foundation for a whole world of knowledge and a lifetime of learning. Our brains are wired for language, connection, and education, so reading comes naturally and is even “easy” for some. Others, they need a little support and guidance. That’s where we come in! Every student deserves to feel confident in their reading ability and develop their interests with the knowledge that reading can unlock. We aim to blend the science of reading with fun and real-world experiences to reach all students who love to be challenged and those who need a little extra support to get there!

Learning to read, however, is only the beginning! We have worked hard to comb through all of the latest research and timeless practices out there to help students just like your finally feel confident reading, find topics that interest them, and inspire them to seek out new information.
We not only help students learn to read but to become curious learners, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and empathetic humans. Along the way we read passages and stories about myths, fables, and diverse history from the americas and around the world.

We hope to break the barriers and restrictions that can come with classroom learning for so many students and give families the power to educate their children in the way they always dreamed!

Come here for all Literacy, Reading, and Writing classes from Pre-K to Secondary!

My name is Alix, and I began creating these special Literacy lessons in 2020. I was hoping to find a way to blend the latest science-based research with fun games and real-world applications that helped students become confident readers, especially those who felt nothing else was working for them. I have grown from a one-teacher operation to a multi-teacher organization with like-minded educators.

We use a program/system based on Orton-Gillingham's multi-sensory approaches and other research-based techniques proven to show results for all learners, especially those struggling. We work to stay up-to-date with the latest studies to provide the best resources and support for our students. Our materials and lessons are continuously updated. Each class is designed to target all 6 Key Components of Literacy in a multisensory and holistic manner to build a strong foundation while making connections with new friends around the world and having fun! For us, it is essential that students feel comfortable in class, have fun, and that their curiosity Learning to read and write (like learning a new language) is all about trial and error, making mistakes, self-correction, and perseverance! Every student needs a safe and comfortable environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and be themselves. First and foremost, we aim to create a safe space for students to grow, explore, and connect with the materials we read and each other.

In every class of every level, we will cover Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Comprehension, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Writing--the six foundational pillars of Literacy.

I strongly suggest registering for a class that fits your child's needs rather than based on Grade Level, but for reference, each course includes the Grade Level correlation. If you have any questions or concerns, especially about placement or scheduling, please send me a message :)
