No formal homework although learners will progress faster by practising between classes.Class Experience
Each week in this ongoing class, we will explore a different drawing in order to build a range of skills. I am a qualified art teacher with over 13 years experience and I love to help students develop their abilities! All my drawing exercises are tried and tested and have helped thousands of children and adults to improve their drawing skills. Weekly drawings will cover use of line, tone, shape, proportion and perspective. Using a second camera showing my live demonstration I will explain each technique, showing clearly how different effects can be achieved. Students will be able to ask questions and then follow along with me while I give encouraging feedback and tips for progressing further. Each week will be a standalone exercise and after a year of different drawings the class topics will repeat to give everyone a chance to cover popular subjects. Over a few sessions, participants will learn how to "see" their subjects in a new way that will help them tackle drawing anything with confidence. Quite often, students who have been with me for a while begin to show me drawings they have completed outside of class and are proud of. This is my goal - to get every learner excited about drawing. Where possible, I try to include some "freestyle" time towards the end of the lesson, where learners are free to finish their drawing in whichever way they like for example adding a background. In this way they can use their imaginations to make their drawings unique to them. No experience is necessary and this class is very suitable for beginner artists. (However, learners who really lack confidence in art may wish to book onto one of my "Build Art Skills and Confidence" classes first as a starting point.) During my classes, there are lots of opportunities for English conversation while learners complete each step of the drawing. I have a friendly, chatty style of teaching and for this reason I encourage learners to unmute and engage with me and each other. In this way, lots of my learners have become friends and enjoy catching up each week. Learners will need a supply of paper, a 3b or 4b pencil (ideally), an eraser, pencil sharpener and some q-tips/cotton buds for blending.
Other Details
Supply List
Learners will need a pencil, eraser and sharpener and, for some classes, a q-tip/cotton bud for blending. (Occasionally we may need something else such as a ruler or circular object to draw around, however I will post in the classroom a day or two before the class if this is the case.)
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
