Assessment
Rubrics are available upon request. Student art submissions are not required and grades are not given. However, if requested I will provide a grade based on a rubric that encompasses the following: 1-Workmanship, Paper Neatness 2-Creativity and Originality 3-Effort, Time on Task, & Complete 4-Apply Elements & Principles, Follow Directions 5-Overall composition & Difficulty

Welcome to EVERYONE IS AN ARTIST engaging art curriculum aligned with National Core Standards for Secondary Visual Arts (High School). We meet once a week per semester. 

The Everyone is an Artist High School Art Class focused on the Elements of Art aims to foster creativity and self-expression in every student. This class embraces the belief that everyone has artistic abilities and provides an inclusive and supportive environment for exploring the fundamental elements of art and no prior knowledge is necessary. Included in each lesson are tips to help you become more imaginative and original, and features on famous artists throughout history.

Throughout the course, students will engage in a variety of projects that allow them to apply and experiment with the elements of art. They will build a comprehensive body of work that showcases their understanding and ability to incorporate the elements of art into their creative work.

Weekly lessons & activities will include a combination of the following: 
-Art drawing prompts
-Discussions about creativity, art process and art observation.
-Written, typed, and/or posted responses to prompts 
-Imaginative drawings or projects
-Featured artist or artistic movement. 

These will consist of instructional and informational .pdf's, printable worksheets, Google Forms, and occasional demonstration or introduction videos. Your child will be encouraged to interact with me and classmates during the live online class and throughout the week by posting original responses, observing others responses as well as well-known artworks, and commenting on them. In total, plan for 2-4 hours of work assigned weekly in addition to the 45-minute live online class.  The lessons will vary in degree of difficulty giving students choice in completing only the assignment/s that best aligns with their goals. 

Students who have questions about the activities, or would like feedback about in-progress work are invited to submit inquiries and work through Outschool Classroom for a response.  For the quickest reply time, contact me during Teacher Office Hours M-F 7:00 AM PT - 5:00 PM PT. Students can request a live zoom meeting with me for support, although these are not required. I am available to support your development as an artist, so please get in touch!


WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS POST TO THE OUTSCHOOL CLASSROOM TO HELP YOU ARRIVE PREPARED FOR LIVE CLASS
COURSE OUTLINE:

*Camera on preferred for on-the-spot support and for safety
*Siblings and/or co-learners must each be enrolled to attend. All students must be enrolled separately per Outschool policy. *Unenrolled students at the time of class will be placed in the waiting room until the parent can enroll them.
*All class lessons are based on student ability and pace.
*All classes will begin on time as long as the learner is in the classroom. If all students are absent at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message on the discussion board and exit after 10 minutes.

Unit 1 - Personal Creativity and Vision:
Originality - Self-expression - Emotional tone - Message awareness - Learn to see

Learn what it means to be creative and express unique ideas. 
Define specific things that help you increase your ability to make original art.

Unit 2 - Explore the Basics: The Elements of Art:
Line: Students will learn to create and manipulate various types of lines to convey mood, texture, and form.
Shape and Form: Students will explore two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional forms, discovering their visual impact and relationship within compositions.
Color: Students will study color theory, including hue, value, and saturation, and learn how to effectively use color palettes in their artwork.
Texture: Students will experiment with different techniques to create visual and tactile textures in their pieces, adding depth and interest.
Space: Students will develop an understanding of positive and negative space, depth, and perspective to create a sense of space within their artwork.
Value: Students will explore light and dark values to add contrast, dimension, and mood to their compositions.
Contrast and Unity: Students will learn to create visual interest and cohesion through the strategic use of contrast and unity within their artwork.

Draw your ideas
 We will look at what it is to be creative and learn some keys to increasing our ability to make original art.

Think Like an Artist
 Convergent thinking vs. divergent thinking, what is it, how does it work and what does it have to do with art?
•Think Like an Artist - The Candle Problem
•Complete the Line - Creative drawing exercise
•Alternative Uses Brain Dump - Practice using your imagination and see something that is not there. 
•Art Through Time - Timeline of Art, Representational Art, Abstract Art and Non-objective Art.

Lesson 3:
Identity Reflection
 •Do Lines Have Emotion - experiment with how the line expresses different emotions and explore the language of lines.  
•Everyone Has Value - learn more about our unique identities and embrace our differences. We are going to examine our gifts
and abilities and accept and honor our value, as well as the value of all
other humans. 
•Identity and the Line - Build on Do Lines Have Emotion and will use the line to build identity awareness.

Lesson 4:
Identity and Color
 •Identity and Color - Build on Identity and the Line and integrate color that represents your identity.  
•Everyone is Priceless, community building lesson encourages posting general information about yourself to our community stream, learning about classmates and when inspired commenting on classmates posts.  
•Art Through Time - Learn about Renaissance artists and observe their artworks. Respond to a series of prompts showing what you learned about the information covered.
