What's the difference between magnesium and manganese? Is gold only used in jewelry? Is boron actually boring? Learn the answers to these questions and more! This 50 minute live class will explore the everyday uses of some of the elements of the periodic table. Many of these are a part of your life even if you don't realize it! Class will be a mixture of instructor lecture and class discussion. There will be an activity at the end of class where students can discuss which element use was most surprising to them. No homework will be assigned in this class.

I am a certified chemistry teacher (grades 7-12) with 6.5 years of experience in the classroom. I have also taught freshman college chemistry. From these experiences, I have worked with a lot of different types of learners at various stages of interest and motivation- from high school students simply taking the class as a requirement to college freshmen chemistry majors passionate about the course with never ending questions. I can tailor my teaching style to fit the learner, and I do what I can to make it approachable by anyone.
