Essential Math Strategies: Solving Word Problems

The class will be structured into two sections: learning strategies for solving word problems and then applied practice. The word problems can be solved using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will go through several questions step-by-step in order to solve them together before students practise on their own. Student learning goals: To be able to recognize when addition, subtraction, multiplication or division is needed to solve a word problem. To be able to apply several different successful strategies when faced with a word problem.
Homework Offered
Practice questions will be posted to the classroom stream after the live video lesson. Students may submit their answers on the Outschool platform after. Students will also have access to all slides and practice questions shown throughout the live class.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will compete a brief math survey using Google Forms to find out the level of math you are currently at. We will do practice questions along the way to assess understanding.Grades Offered
