Learn fun martial arts solo skills! Striking & Kicking (Boxing), Rolling, Falling, Acrobatics, Ninja Moves, Sword kata, Yoga Poses, and Movement Games. We also discuss emotional control using breathing and relaxation techniques. A typical class consists of a breathing & focus practice, followed by movements to strengthen balance and coordination (animal moves, yoga poses), then martial arts skills, movement games, and we end with a breathing & relaxation cool down. Sometimes we include discussion at the end so the students can talk about their experiences and discuss how to solve conflict without aggression or anger. Learning Goals
Children will learn breathing and relaxation techniques to manage emotions and stress while under pressure. They also learn physical skills that translate to real life- like how to fall safely and get out of the way of danger and solve problems without aggression. Our approach is not just to teach students our physical patterns, but to help them discover their own bodies and their own way of moving. And we do lots of really cool moves too!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students will need an area free of dangerous obstacles with enough room to fall to the ground, roll around, and get up without doing any damage to the home, or themselves. A smooth stick, toy sword, lightsaber, or training sword (bokken) that is no higher than the student's navel is needed for sword kata. We do cover safety rules with the kids for handling the stick, but since we are not in person, the parent may want to make sure there is nothing around that can be easily broken by using the stick.
Supply List
Smooth Stick, Toy Sword, Lightsaber, or wooden training sword (bokken). No taller than the student's navel. 2 Balls (tennis, racket, and/or bean bag) Soccer ball or similar sized ball. Moveable Chair, no wheels Other household items might be requested such as pens, crayons, etc. at the beginning of class.
